Factory Street Studios

Factory St. Studios is Yorkshire’s premier music hub for anyone with a passion for or professional interest in music. Factory Street is a professional recording studio in Bradford, the only facility of its kind in Yorkshire.

Factory Street is a great idea and goes beyond the functionality of making music. It is being built as a community hub based on the shared love of music. I hope it does well.

I’ve been there to make a some short promotional pieces. See blog post

BBC World Service Trust, Nigeria

Just completed a week in Abuja on a TV promotional spot making course. There is huge potential for creative spot making to tackle health and good governance.

There is already a team in place making TV drama and radio programmes, together with a team of trainers who will be visiting TV stations to encourage creative communication. We will be continuing our relationship with the team and perhaps featuring some of their work on this site.

Bramley Primary School
This year we have been focussing on schools work with the Creative Partnerships scheme. Raynville Primary School in Bramley has been developing its use of video in helping children engage with class activities and learn some new skills.

The starting point was to establish a film crew identifying specific roles for the children; these roles were reinforced using tools as props - the clapper board, microphone, camera, tripod and so on. The use of physical objects helps the children identify with the role and take responsibility for a particular aspect of the work. We’ve also been using video as a tool to review class activities. We’ll have more on this soon.

Six schools in Keighley
Schools are coming together to embark on an ambitious treasure hunt idea. The technology will be based on that used for Geocaching - a sport in which GPS navigation devices are used to locate hidden treasure. Over the next three months the schools will record aspects of Keighley’s history - events, people places, - and create boxes of historical treasure. The boxes can be used in whatever imaginative ways the children can devise, and this includes video and audio. The boxes will be hidden as part of the treasure hunt and finally on display at Cliffe Castle Museum. read article in the local paper

Local Marketing campaigns
We are continuing to keep an eye on the growth of video on the web as a marketing tool for businesses and organisations. Building on work done for ITV, we are examining the cost of producing video for small businesses and strategies for getting the video seen by the right audiences. The work includes a hard and creative look at the use of video production tools which traditionally have been very expensive. Is it possible to make a video commercial for £500?

We are currently working with local businesses to see what can be offered. If you’d like to be part of this collaboration please get in touch.

Video portraits for galleries and exhibitions
We are continuing to develop our interest in Video Portraits for artists websites and physical spaces. A trials at the Keighley Arts Factory and Strid Visitors Centre both proved successful. Our next project will be a step change for us and we’ll have more information about that soon.
